Biodiesel is an alternative to conventional “fossil” diesel, which is produced from a diverse mix of resources such as recycled cooking oil, animal fats, and soya bean oil.
Biodiesel can be produced through a chemical process called transesterification. Under the process, glycerin is separated from fat or vegetable oil, to leave behind methyl esters and glycerin.
While methyl ester is the chemical name for biodiesel, glycerin is used in a variety of products, including soaps, detergents, shampoos etc.
